Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre (BVSC) is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Veterinary Criticalist (Emergency & Critical Care Specialist) to join our growing multidisciplinary referral and emergency team. We welcome applications from board-certified specialists (ACVECC, ECVECC, FANZCVS ECC, or equivalent) as well as residency-trained candidates nearing completion of their training.

Our team of specialists, emergency veterinarians, interns, residents, and dedicated nursing professionals work together to provide seamless, patient-centred care. 

As we continue to expand our specialist services and clinical capabilities, we are seeking a Criticalist who shares our passion for clinical excellence, client engagement, and advancing the standard of veterinary emergency and critical care. We seek a professional who is driven and enthusiastic to grow the Intensive Care department as we continue to develop as a hospital. 

Facilities & Equipment 

Our hospital is equipped with leading-edge technology to support the highest standards of patient care, including:

  • Advanced Imaging: Multi-slice CT Scanner, Digital Radiography, High-end Ultrasound Systems
  • Critical Care & Emergency: A developing Intensive Care Department (ICU), Mechanical Ventilation, Multiparameter Monitoring, High-Flow Oxygen Therapy, Point-of-Care Ultrasound, Blood Product Administration Capabilities
  • Surgical & Interventional: Fluoroscopy, Laparoscopy, Arthroscopy, Advanced Surgical Suites
  • In-House Diagnostics: Full IDEXX Laboratory, Haematology, Biochemistry, Coagulation Testing, Blood Gas Analysis, Electrolyte Monitoring

About the Role 

As a BVSC Veterinary Criticalist, you will play a key leadership role within our developing Intensive Care service.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing complex emergency and critically ill patients.
  • Providing specialist consultation and support to referring veterinarians.
  • Collaborating with specialists across multiple disciplines.
  • Developing treatment plans for intensive care patients.
  • Supporting and mentoring emergency clinicians and nurses.
  • Contributing to the growth and advancement of the Intensive Care and Emergency service.

This position offers flexibility and can be tailored to suit candidates seeking full-time, part-time, or consulting arrangements.

What We're Looking For 

  • Essential Requirements:
    • Diplomate status (ACVECC, ECVECC, FANZCVS ECC, or equivalent) OR

Residency-trained ECC veterinarian eligible for board certification.

  • Eligibility for veterinary registration in Queensland
  • Strong clinical expertise in emergency and critical care medicine.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional patient and client care.
  • Desirable 
    • Previous leadership or mentoring experience.
    • Interest in teaching and clinical education.
    • Experience developing ECC protocols and service initiatives.
