Melbourne Animal Referral Service are looking for another oncologist to join our truly outstanding team, full time or part time. MARS and our sister hospital in Geelong, GARS, are proudly privately owned, multidisciplinary, small animal referral hospitals. Both hospitals are staffed 24/7 with onsite specialists in oncology, surgery, internal medicine, and diagnostic imaging. Our Specialists are supported by an outstanding team of interns, nursing, HR and customer service staff.

The MARS hospital is located in Hawthorn East, just 10 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD Our stellar location has onsite parking and is close to major arterials and public transport. The hospital is 1500 square meters and includes a 64 helical slice CT scanner, C-arm Video Fluoroscopy, Endoscopy, Ultrasound, DR radiography several human hospital grade theatres and space prepared for a 1.5 T MRI.
About the Role
Our Veterinary Oncologists, play a key role in diagnosing and treating pets with cancer using the latest advancements in medical oncology. You'll work closely with our established Oncology team, to deliver personalized, evidence-based care and provide hope and clarity to pet families navigating complex decisions.
We are specifically looking for a dynamic team player who is willing to collaborate with all members of staff while expanding our first-class services to patients, clients and referring vets. Area(s) of interest that the candidate wishes to advance to the highest possible level will be strongly supported.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver comprehensive oncology consultations, staging, and treatment planning
- Plan chemotherapy and other advanced anti-cancer therapies
- Collaborate with Surgeons, Internal Medicine Specialists, and Radiologists
- Actively support Residents via a supervised program of education and training
- Guide clients with empathy, clarity, and compassionate communication
- Contribute to ongoing clinical improvement and innovation
- Work alongside experienced, dedicated nurses and interns to support high standards of patient care.
What We’re Looking For
- A veterinary degree registerable in Victoria or a willingness to apply for special registration with the board and sit the Australasian Veterinary Examination
- Specialist in Oncology (FANZCVS, DECVIM or DACVIM) currently registered or eligible for registration as a specialist within the state of Victoria.
- Residency trained candidates will be considered.
- Significant experience in all areas of Oncology
- Passion for delivering the highest standard of care
- Ability to work as part of a team is essential
- Excellent communication skills also essential
- Strong work ethic
- Ability to lead and motivate junior staff
- Ability to provide tuition, guidance and mentorship to junior staff
