Small Animal Theriogenology (Reproduction) Residency at Doncaster Veterinary Hospital
Doncaster Veterinary Hospital is a privately owned small animal practice in the Northeastern suburbs of Melbourne. Doncaster Veterinary Hospital operates as a general practice combined with a Specialist Small Animal Reproduction Service. The practice currently has 6 general practitioners, 1 Small Animal Reproduction Resident, 1 registered specialist in small animal reproduction, 3 dedicated reproduction technicians, 7 veterinary nurses, and 3 receptionists. We are proud to offer one of the only full small animal specialist reproductive services in Australia.
Services offered:
My expertise encompasses all facets of reproductive veterinary medicine, including breeding management, comprehensive health screening, neonatal care and treatment, and the management of juvenile and reproductive diseases. I have extensive experience investigating infertility, performing semen collection, freezing and storage, and conducting advanced procedures such as transcervical insemination (TCI) with fresh, chilled, and frozen semen, as well as laparoscopic and caesarean surgeries. By leveraging high-quality equipment and evidence-based practices, I strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients.
In a peer-reviewed study published in Theriogenology, I demonstrated that transcervical insemination resulted in a 20% higher pregnancy rate compared to surgical insemination with frozen canine semen, underscoring the clinical advantages of this minimally invasive technique and its positive impact on patient welfare.
My commitment to excellence and continuous improvement is reflected in my active participation in professional journal clubs and regular attendance at national and international conferences. This ongoing engagement not only ensures I remain at the forefront of advancements in theriogenology but also allows me to share the latest insights with colleagues, thereby fostering a culture of learning and excellence within the team. This dedication translates directly into optimal patient care and contributes positively to the collaborative environment at Doncaster Veterinary Hospital.
About the position
This is a new position in addition to our current staff. Our Theriogenology resident will initially assist in the treatment and management of small animal reproduction cases, evolving to having primary care of the same types of cases. The position is a full-time role with training provided to enable attainment of Diplomate Status with the American College of Theriogenologists and registration as a specialist in small animal reproduction in Australia or overseas. Most of the training program will be conducted at Doncaster Veterinary Hospital, with some time required away from the practice to gain experience and knowledge in large animal and production species. Time will be provided to attend and present at conferences both nationally and internationally. You will be required to publish at least one paper in a peer reviewed journal as part of your training. We have regular meetings and journal clubs with other DACT and reproduction residents in Australia. The position does not involve general practice work. We recommend attainment of MANZCVS in Veterinary Reproduction as part of your training.
