The Austin Vet Specialists continues to grow! Our imaging case load is ever-growing and exciting with a wide variety of cases.

Therefore, we are looking for a third Resident in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging to join our team.

 

The Residency

The Residency is a three-year fulltime clinical position with a start date of 1st October 2026.

The Resident will be part of the Diagnostic Imaging team, consisting of four radiologists (ECVDI and FANZCVS), two locum radiologists (ECVDI and ACVR), two ECVDI residents, two imaging interns, dedicated imaging nurse, three radiographers and a full team of nurses and animal care attendants.

The daily work will revolve around the participation in the small animal imaging service (such as performing ultrasounds, writing radiograph and CT reports) as well as providing collaborative care of the patients in hospital and accepting imaging requests from referring vets during our opening hours.

Needless to say, the Resident can expect full support and instruction in performing and interpreting diagnostic imaging examinations.

Additional activities include exposure (pun intended) to advanced cross-sectional imaging (CT and MRI), daily hospital rounds, in-house journal club, regular imaging rounds, exotic rounds, teaching of Adelaide Vet School students and much more.

Our custom-built hospital (1200m2) is designed around a synergistic approach to patient care. Between specialist departments in surgery, internal medicine and imaging, as well as a 24/7 emergency service, we work as one team to ensure outstanding patient care and exceptional customer service.

Our hospital has all the instruments necessary to enable our team to relish their chosen careers, and flourish. This includes two ultrasound rooms, Philips EPIQ Elite ultrasound machine, Philips Incisive 64 slice CT scanner, three mobile ultrasound machines, radiography room with cloud-based PACS, dedicated radiology reading room (with soundproofing and adaptable lighting), flat-panel fluoroscopy, and much more including access to 3T MRI scanner and PET-CT scanner.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise

  • Veterinary degree that is recognised in South Australia
  • Minimum of one year working experience in small animal veterinary practice
  • Completion of a rotating and/or imaging internship
  • Previous experience with ultrasound is useful
  • Willingness to participate in rotating roster including weekend on-call shifts.
