Internal Medicine Specialist
Are you a diplomat or equivalent (ACVIM/ECVIM/FANZCVS) small animal internist? Registered or eligible for Specialist Registration with the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council?
Are you looking to escape the corporate-owned model, to grow with an independent, motivated, highly qualified team? Are you an Internal Medicine Specialist who enjoys providing high-quality, patient-centred care in a dynamic hospital that values its people, professional growth, work–life balance, and wellbeing? Do you value professional autonomy and the freedom to pursue your clinical passions?
We could be what you're looking for!
- Boutique Specialist / Referral Centre in Sydney's Beautiful Northern Beaches (established 2015)
- New purpose-built hospital in 2023
- Friendly, inclusive environment where you are encouraged and motivated to continually grow
- We have a high caseload with many challenging and interesting cases, whilst also maintaining a healthy work/life balance
- Collaborate with other amazing specialists and our experienced and reliable emergency vets who care for our patients overnights and weekends
- Gold Feline Friendly accreditation
Who Are We?
We are a rapidly growing referral centre with Specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Cardiology, Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Oncology, Dermatology and Ophthalmology.
We provide Internal Medicine assessments, diagnostics and treatment for over 60 local GP clinics. Staffed by fabulous, highly experienced vets and nurses, we pride ourselves in maintaining a close-knit team, while providing exceptional service. We aim to make our clients feel that their pet is as important to us, as it is to them.
Our newly purpose-built facility (2023) is equipped for even more of the services and treatments we love to provide to the community.
About the Role
Collaboration is our middle name and you will work alongside all departments to deliver the best possible patient outcomes. With in-house endoscopy, fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, computed tomography and in-house radiologists, our hospital is well equipped with the toys you would expect in a specialist and referral hospital. We have access to external MRI, as well as an additional cage-side mobile x-ray unit for those patients too critical to move, ventilators, a full surgical suite (with 4 theatres), and a full in-house laboratory.
The role is varied and exciting, with a caseload consisting of first-opinion referrals, plus internal referrals from our ECC team. Our medicine team covers hours between Monday and Friday from 8am to 6pm.
Practice with autonomy and impact:
- Autonomy for your schedule, allowing for protected thinking/diagnostic time.
- Access to advanced aerodigestive diagnostics through The Pet Specialists ‘Aerodigestive Health Centre’.
- Real control over protocol development and service evolution. Many Specialists would like more influence but feel blocked by corporate bureaucracy. We offer freedom to implement gold-standard protocols, R&D or clinical innovation support and pathways to build new services.
- A hospital that genuinely utilises its Diagnostic Imaging Specialists and DI Specialists who enjoy complex workups. (Internal Medicine Specialists are welcome to perform their own imaging if preferred.)
- Specialist-to-intern ratios of 1:1 or 2:1, to ensure that you never carry the caseload (or paperwork) alone.
- A hospital culture that protects wellbeing: no weekend expectations and flexible scheduling.
