Emergency and Critical Care Specialist | Melbourne, VIC

As our practice expands into an additional purpose-built hospital in the inner east of Melbourne, we are looking to expand our specialist services. We are looking for a colleague to join our Emergency and Specialist Veterinary Hospital.  Currently, our existing hospitals are in Geelong, Kensington, and Kew.  We aim to expand our specialist services to include a criticalist to support our 24-hour emergency services along with our specialist surgery, anaesthesia, internal medicine and oncology teams.

Advanced Vetcare is a growing, independently-owned referral centre.  We believe in a collaborative team approach to patient care and that the best patient outcomes come from the involvement of more than one specialist or department.  This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated critical care specialist, residency-trained clinician or senior experienced emergency clinician, to join the Advanced Vetcare Team and have an impact on shaping this team.

The majority of our senior ICU clinicians have achieved membership qualifications to the ANZCVS in ECC. We have an active mentorship program for all of our staff (interns, residents, nurses, ICU clinicians) with tutorials, Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality rounds & Journal Clubs.

This position requires clinical interaction with your colleagues within the practice with the primary role of providing critical care expertise to our varied caseload along with mentoring and training within the emergency team. The position is flexible with part-time to full-time hours and consideration is given to your preferred work location. A postgraduate qualification allowing registration as a specialist is preferred, however registrars and senior clinicians are welcome to apply.

Our centres are well-equipped modern hospitals with access to advanced medical technology, including intensive care ventilators, blood gas analysis, cage-side ultrasound, and on-site CT. Our vets and nurses work collaboratively to provide excellent patient care.

Our hospitals are located in three diverse areas around Melbourne. Geelong is a beautiful coastal city on the doorstep of the world-famous Bells Beach and Great Ocean Road.  Kew is within the leafy, established inner eastern suburbs with excellent local schools and easy access to the city and surrounding lifestyle suburbs. Kensington is centrally located in the inner west, with easy access to excellent public transport and the vibrancy of being located so close to the centre of Melbourne.

Remuneration will be generous and negotiable on experience. Our practice will assist with relocation costs and provide sponsorship for skilled migration if required.

Benefits of working at AVC:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Relocation assistance for international applicants
  • Access to a supportive and collaborative team of specialists and veterinarians
  • State-of-the-art facilities and equipment
  • Continuing education opportunities
  • A workplace that values work-life balance and a positive team culture
  • A business 100% owned and operated by veterinarians working in clinical roles in the practice.
