About SASH
At SASH, our aim is to help pets and their families lead their best life. Central to this is having a team who are committed to our core values of Integrity, Care, Excellence, and Teamwork. SASH is the largest multi-disciplinary private specialist hospital in the southern hemisphere. Our North Ryde emergency department provides care to over 10,000 patients each year, with a large and varied case load being managed directly by our Critical Care Service. The Critical Care team plays an active role in both primary inpatient management and active oversight of the Emergency Room, as well as in the coordinated care of other patients cared for in the ICU.

SASH - North Ryde has recently undertaken a complete hospital refurbishment, including a purpose-built emergency department and a separate Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a 40-patient capacity. These areas are equipped with multi-parameter monitors, telemetry, high-flow nasal oxygen, in house diagnostic lab and visco-elastic coagulation testing, Puritan Bennett ventilators and a highly skilled nursing team.

The Internship:
SASH North Ryde is pleased to continue to offer a ECC speciality internship program. We have been running our ECC internship program for the past 6 years, with continued growth and success of the program and its graduates. As our ECC Intern, you will be an integral part of the team under the watchful guidance of our 4 Critical Care specialists, as well as ECC Residents in training, who staff the hospital 7 days/wk.
The internship will involve a rotating roster of shifts during days, evenings, nights, and weekends, giving you exposure to a wide variety of interesting cases. You will have the opportunity for independent case management in both the Emergency room and in the ICU, with support and guidance from the specialist team.

We have structured our Internship to prepare the candidate to be successful and confident to take the next step into a residency program in ECC, or to continue growth and development as an Emergency clinician. In addition to 'on the floor' teaching and mentoring we have 3 hours of dedicated teaching rounds weekly (journal club and board review sessions) which the ECC intern is expected to participate in. The hospital hosts monthly M+M rounds to encourage interdisciplinary case collaboration and learning.
The programme is of 12 months duration and can include participation in a clinical research project, presenting at a conference or publishing if of interest to the candidate. All ECC interns are assigned a mentor at the start of the program, and frequent progress reviews are held during the year.
