12-month Clinical Traineeship (Internship) - Anaesthesia | Murdoch University

The School of Veterinary Medicine, Murdoch University is pleased to offer the following 12-month Discipline-Specific Traineeships, starting in July 2026:

The 12-month postgraduate trainee program is an advanced clinical training program in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University in Western Australia. The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University (TAHMU) is a busy, multidisciplinary clinic focused on both undergraduate and graduate training. Work alongside specialists and residents within these areas, to develop your clinical skills, while also gaining formal recognition of your training through concurrent enrolment in a graduate program. These positions would suit a recent graduate veterinarian interested in further university training and upskilling in these areas or seeking a steppingstone to further clinical training such as a residency. The Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia section delivers comprehensive anaesthesia care across a wide range of species, including cats, dogs, horses, ruminants, camelids, and pigs, supporting both large and small animal medicine and surgical disciplines. This allows trainees to receive exceptional, hands-on training within a busy teaching hospital environment. As a trainee, you will work alongside a dynamic and supportive team of specialist veterinarians, residents, and highly experienced veterinary nurses. All clinical cases are closely supervised by senior anaesthetists, ensuring a safe learning environment that encourages active participation, case-based discussion, and reflective practice. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to develop strong clinical skills and confidence in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia across diverse species.

 

An annual stipend of $40k is offered with concurrent enrolment in the graduate program, which results in award of a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Clinical Studies after completion of two semesters. Course fees are paid by the School. The role may involve after‑hours responsibilities as part of a rotating roster. Additional remuneration will be provided for any after‑hours duties.

 

Application process

Application for clinical training positions is restricted to veterinarians with a degree that can be registered in Western Australia.  Australian and New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status is required.  

A letter of intent, current CV, certified copy of academic transcripts, names of 3 referees, and a certified copy of passport/visa as proof of Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency, or of New Zealand citizenship, should be submitted to Jody.Reeve@murdoch.edu.au.
